Visual Arts Classes

The visual arts program at Western School District encompasses K-12 curriculum. Art teachers teach to a diverse population of students.
At the elementary level, students are able to experience art on a rotation by grade at each building. In the middle school, students are able to experience a variety of media in the art class room by grade. Students sculpt, paint and create with clay. In the high schools, art classes are offered at a basic to advanced level. Students experience as many media possible from drawing and painting to clay and digital photography and filmmaking to give them a rounded experience in visual arts. Current classes include; Basic Art, 2-D Design, Independent Advanced Art, Digital Photography, Art of Film and Multimedia Communications.
High school students interested in art as a career often are invited to join the National Art Honor Society. Students need to take an art class yearly and maintain a B average in all art classes.
Student work is displayed yearly at the #jxnartteachers Show and at the Michigan Art Education Association shows.
